Small-scale geocaching

Waypoint EDU turns the schoolyard into a treasure map. You hide the Waypoints and your students go find them, with a quiz waiting at every stop.

Waypoint EDU is designed for small-scale geocaching. Play outdoors using iPhone or GPS-enabled iPads, or play indoors using our printable Hunt Cards.

For teachers (and parents)

Set it up at your desk. Play it outside.

Setting up a Hunt is very simple. Keep scrolling and we'll build one together, from a blank map to a class full of explorers.

Start a Hunt

Tap Create, then give your Hunt a name and a few details. Everything else happens on the map.

Draw the Playfield

Trace the area you want to play in, right on the map. The Waypoints land inside it. Shuffle them with one tap, or drag each one where you want it.

Teacher tip: for one class period, keep it about the size of a football field.

Write the questions

Give every Waypoint a quiz question from your own curriculum. Or skip the writing and start from one of the Official Hunts.

AirDrop it to the class

Send the Hunt to student devices with AirDrop. It opens right in Waypoint EDU, ready to play. Messages and email work too.

Head outside

Students follow the map to each Waypoint. When they get close, a 3D model appears on the ground in AR. Answering its quiz unlocks the next one.

Then check the Hunt Log

When the last Waypoint is found, students land on the Hunt Log, with play time and quiz accuracy for every stop. They can export it as a PDF and send it back to your device.

Play the schoolyard

Students walk the Playfield with an iPhone or a GPS-enabled iPad. When they reach a Waypoint, its 3D model appears on the ground.

Play the classroom

Rained out? Print the Hunt Cards and place them around the room. Each card is keyed to its own AR scene, and students find them in order.

Official Hunts

Waypoint EDU includes two Official Hunts. Students learn about ancient wonders of the world like Stonehenge and the Pyramid of Giza, and inventions like the telephone and the lightbulb, through scale-model AR.

Before you head out

An iPhone, or an iPad with GPS + Cellular, for playing.
Any iPhone or iPad for creating Hunts. Wi-Fi only is fine.
A color printer, if you're playing an Indoor Hunt with Hunt Cards.
Somewhere to play. A Playfield about the size of a football field fits a class period nicely.
